An Amber Room alert
There's a difference between the hardcover and paperback editions of The Amber Room. The last part of Chapter 22, where Knoll evades Danzer in the Atlanta airport had to be re-written. When Steve wrote the original manuscript in the early 1990s, boarding passes weren't needed in order to get to gates. Neither Steve his agent, editor, or the copy editor caught the error so the scene was printed in the hardcover edition as written originally. A reader noted the problem, so the scene was re-written for the paperback. Though The Amber Room represents Steve's first published novel, it was actually the fourth manuscript he wrote. The first three never made it to print, though parts of them have appeared in his other novels. So far the book has been published in 22 countries around the world, with over 1,000,000 books in print. Steve even made it on the Today show for a segment on the actual Amber Room.
